Sumptuous Seminole...   (beginner)  1/2 to 1 day

A few years ago I developed a way to add metallic thread to every seam of my seminole piecing to add emphasis and sparkle.  I used this method extensively in my garments for the 2000 Fairfield Fashion Show and the 2002 and 2006 Bernina Fashion Shows.  I also developed improved ways of working with seminole strips not found in any book. 1/2 or 1 Day Class on various types of  Seminole patchwork.  I  also include a small segment on this topic in my Embellishment Class.

Embellishment...(Intermediate) 1 or 2 days

We begin with Seminole patchwork, an excellent technique for quilts, clothing and household items.  You will also learn methods of embellishing it with metallic thread and finishing methods not found in textbooks, and methods of making “fake Seminole” using a pleater board.  We will explore a variety of embellishments, including  scrunching fabric, working with metallic and specialty threads, beading by machine,  adding cords and trims, manipulating fabric in a number of ways and much much more. Add pizzaz to your quilts and wearables.

Make a Wearable Art Coat ( Intermediate to Advanced) 3 to 5 days

Take your choice from the Folkwear Turkish Coat or June Colburn’s Asian Coat.  Or bring your own favorite coat pattern without fitted sleeves or darts.

The Folkwear pattern is a favorite among wearable artists.  The large back panel lends itself beautifully for creativity and embellishment. The classic style is flattering to almost everyone and the construction is fairly easy. June Colburn’s great new Asian Coat pattern for a reversible coat is also perfect for embellishment.  You can make one side plain and have fun embellishing the other side. A coat gives you so much more wonderful space for designing and embellishing.  You’ll learn some tricks along the way to make yourself a stunning garment.

This is also the Folkwear Turkish Coat Pattern shown above.  It is made from a number of Guatemalan fabrics and weavings, four Guatemalan needlepoint belts, a few small Guatemalan dolls, and friendship bracelets from Mexico.

The Bog Coat   (Beginner) 1 Day

Take 1 1/2 yards if fabric, make a few simple cuts, add neck and sleeve bands, and you have a beautiful jacket.  By doubling the amount of fabric you can make the jacket reversible.  This is a great pattern for big prints that are hard to match.  The jacket could also be made from patchwork.
