Under the Sea Quilt 2005
For the last four years I have been working with the 7th grade class in the Red Creek New York Middle School to design and sew a quilt of their design and choice.
In 2005 the subject of the 7th graders quilt was Under the Sea. The centerpiece was a mermaid they carefully machine appliqued after drawing, cutting and fusing the pieces. |

The 7th grade students are tieing the quilt together before it is bound. Many of the students designed squares which they then cut out, fused and appliqued. |

The 7th graders had fun tieing the quilt and enjoying the finished quilt which was presented to the school principal at the annual picnic. The finished quilt then hangs in the school office for a year to be enjoyed by everyone. |

Red Creek School 2004
In 2004 the 7th graders chose the local area as the theme for their quilt. The school and school bus which were such a part of their lives, sports, and the apple and fruit orchards surrounding the town were part of the theme.

The border was a flying geese motif which symbolized the flocks they see in the Spring and fall. |

The World Quilt 2003
The world was the theme in 2003 and students made a number of blocks with a variety of themes which caught their fancy. A favorite was snowflakes which was what we were seeing outside out windows. Another favorite was interpreting molas from Panama. The border of the quilt which was not yet attached in this photo was made from Seminole Patchwork. Many students contributed their work to this band. |

Designing and sewing a block was lots of fun. Students who didn't want to sew could find an outlet in decorating the sewn blocks with beads and other interesting items. |
